Our Mission

The Appleton Charitable Foundation was granted Canadian charitable status in 1998. Based in Toronto, the Appleton Foundation is dedicated to supporting and promoting education and community awareness in the arts, humanities and public health.


On November 13, 2008 the Appleton Foundation announced the release of the GreenApple Canada 2008 SMART Transportation Ranking Report. The GreenApple Canada SMART Transportation Ranking Report measures sustainable urban transportation performance in 27 of Canada's largest urban areas. The urban area of Victoria, B.C. holds the first prize in the 2008 GreenApple Canada Ranking Report.

In 2009, the Appleton Foundation plans to release a GreenApple US ranking report which will examine American municipalities and target many of the same transportation policies and indicators as the Canadian version including: Air Quality, Public Policy, Transport Activity and Technology Adoption.
